Defeat this elected dictatorship !
Jim Bollan, SSP councillor for Leven ward
The SNP Council have stolen millions of pounds in back money which
low paid workers are entitled to.
Supported by Councillor Denis Agnew ( The Provost) and the Management
Team, they have turned West Dunbartonshire Council into an elected
dictatorship by tearing up the Standing Orders (rules which govern how
the Council operates) to overturn a Single Status deal made by WDC on
14th May, which after a ballot of Council workers was supported by over
80% of the workforce.
WDC can afford the deal agreed and accepted by the workforce and the
Council in May.
This agreement would have paid all back money owed to all workers starting from
1st April 2006.
The new dictatorship has also increased the working day to 7am 'til 9pm.
The working week will be extended to Monday to Sunday.
Public holidays have been reduced from 12 to 8.
The protection period will be reduced from 5 years to 3.
Workers will lose up to £11,000 of their salary under Single Status while the
SNP approved rises for the Directors of £8,000 for changing their title to Executive
Director!
Bonus schemes will be scrapped on 28th February 2009 with no consolidation into the basic rate.
All these draconian cuts in wages and conditions
will be imposed without agreement on 1st March 2009. Your current contract
will terminate on 28th February 2009 and your new contract will be enforced
from 1st March 2009.
Another example of how an elected dictatorship works.
The elected dictatorship is tearing up the collective agreement procedures
we have with the Trades Unions.
Workers will be taken into the office one at a time to sign the new inferior
contract.
The SNP group is sprinkled with private business people and there is
no doubt in my mind that this imposed deal to keep wages low and reduce
conditions is being done to lay the foundation for their friends in private
business to cherry pick our Public Services.
We all need to unite to make sure this robbery of workers' earnings by
the SNP is reversed immediately.
The SSP is fully behind the workers and we will continue to do all we
can to support Council workers to achieve a fair settlement from WDC.
The three Unions need to provide leadership to their members and encourage them to take decisive action to ensure these cuts cannot be implemented.”
