SSP national secretary Pam Currie

It’s been a tough couple of years for the Scottish Socialist Party, and that’s an understatement.

But we’re still here. We’re still fighting for a socialist transformation of society, for a society free from the gross inequalities of Scotland under New Labour, free from the horrors of war, and free from the profit-driven madness that blights all of our lives.

We may not have any MSPs in Parliament, but that doesn’t mean we’re going to go away. The SSP has branches across Scotland, and we’re campaigning on a range of issues.

We stand for People not Profit – whether that’s fighting for local services, supporting striking workers or resisting the SNP’s big business agenda.

If you agree with our ideas – if you’ve watched the contribution our MSPs made over the last few years, agreed with the Bills on Free School Meals, Scrapping Council Tax and Scrapping Prescription Charges, and want to see an independent, socialist Scotland – now is the time to join us.

Robert Richard

SSP contests Edinburgh Forth ward by-election

Robert Richard, 36, a Secondary School teacher in Fife for the past 12 years, has been a member of the SSP since 2000.

During that time he has taken part in anti-poverty campaigns in West Lothian, protested against the G8 at both home and abroad, and been involved in efforts to save schools in Edinburgh, as well as supporting public sector workers in their quest to win a fair pay rise and promoting Free Public Transport.
He has also actively opposed nuclear weapons at Faslane.

Robert has stood for the SSP in two previous election campaigns for Holyrood and local Council in 2003. He is currently Chair of Edinburgh North branch, having previously been Secretary.

After being selected to fight the Forth ward by-election for the SSP Robert said;
"It is a privilege to have another opportunity to represent the SSP at this time of financial turmoil in our local and national communities.
“This by-election presents a space to advocate a real alternative to the failed policies of corporate neo-liberalism pursued by New Labour and the SNP.
“Only the SSP are on the side of low paid council workers, and offer support and protection to those in Edinburgh who are struggling to cope with the housing crisis as well as fuel poverty.
“We are also able to display our commitment to improving the environment with our policies of Free Public Transport and opposition to the current proposals to redevelop Leith Docks in the area".
